The reason for this is that the product "matsuni" is registered in Georgia and is geographically related to Georgia. According to Armenpress news agency, Armenian producers have started exporting "matsuni" to Russia with the inscription "Armenian Mountain Yogurt".

According to the press secretary of the Armenian Ministry of Economy, this is about the same case as, for example, cognac or champagne, which are registered in France, while “matsoni” [sour cream] is geographically linked to Georgia and, thus, is registered as a geographical indication.

The press secretary of the Armenian Ministry of Economy Gyane Antonyan, stated that this issue will be discussed with representatives of Georgia. She assured that the Armenian government is taking steps to clarify with the Georgian colleagues the use of geographical indications.
