
Levan Davitashvili, candidate for Minister of Economy, highlighted the importance of tourism to Georgia's economy during a parliamentary hearing. He reported a record USD 4.1 billion in tourism revenues for 2023 and projected an increase to USD 4.4 billion in 2024.
Davitashvili noted the potential to develop over 200 resorts, with 60 sites identified for future development. In 2024, Georgia will host the World Tourism Event with the theme "Tourism and Peace." Several international events, like the World Freestyle and Snowboarding Championships, have also been held.
The candidate emphasized efforts to promote winter resorts, with new infrastructure, ski trails, and cable cars planned. He also mentioned the expansion of Georgia's hotel sector, with over 300 new facilities and private investments of about one billion lari.
Tourism revenues are projected to reach USD 6.4 billion by 2028, with 11 million international visitors.
