
An event dedicated to the Day of the Power Engineer of Georgia was held, which was attended by the First Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Romeo Mikautadze. He congratulated the employees working in the country's energy sector on the professional day and thanked them for conscientious performance of their professional duties.
The ceremonial event was held on the territory of the symbolically historical hydroelectric power station Zahesi, which has been operating for almost 100 years. The event was attended by representatives of the energy sector, government agencies and private companies. Romeo Mikautadze made a presentation to the present audience, discussed the current situation in the country's energy sector, talked about specific indicators, as well as displayed the current and planned reforms and projects.
“As per the data of January-August 2023, local production of electricity, as well as export, reached the maximum of the same period of the previous years. 64 power plants have been built in Georgia since 2012, with a total installed capacity of 1209 MW, and an investment of $1.896 billion. 102 contracts have been signed since 2022, including 68 hydroelectric power plant projects, 11 wind and 23 solar power plant projects. It should be noted that since 2022, 13 hydroelectric power stations have been built in Georgia, and by the end of this year, at least 7 more hydroelectric power stations are planned to be completed,” - Romeo Mikautadze stated.
At the presentation, the First Deputy Minister also spoke about the highly efficient, largest thermal power plant project of the installed capacity of 350-430 MW in Gardabani municipality, the new scheme for supporting the production and use of energy from renewable sources and the first auction, which will be used to absorb 300 MW of capacity.
Romeo Mikautadze emphasized the large-scale project of gasification of the regions of Georgia, as well as the prospects for the development of green hydrogen production in Georgia and the work carried out in this regard.
The event dedicated to the Day of the Power Engineer of Georgia ended with the awarding ceremony of the honored employees of the field - they were given certificates and symbolic gifts.
