The Georgian Finance Minister Lasha Khutsishvili believes that there is no need to revise the visa regime with Russia today. The Minister stated this after the Government meeting in response to the journalists' question whether the Cabinet of Ministers will consider the issue raised by the President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili.
"The visa regime is one of the means of controlling who is allowed and who is not allowed into the country and who poses and who does not pose threats when this or that person intends to enter the country. Today's existing control mechanisms fully respond to the challenges that the country faces, and therefore, at this stage, I personally do not see this need. If such a moment arrives when the existing control mechanisms in the country cannot provide the required security standards, we can talk about it, although today there is no need for it," said Lasha Khutsishvili.
To be informed, the President of Georgia Salome Zourabichvili does not rule out that Georgia will revise the conditions of the visa regime with Russia.
As Zourabichvili stated at a joint briefing after the meeting with her counterpart in Moldova, the existing visa regime is liberal and may be less acceptable under the conditions of this aggression.
Salome Zourabichvili also emphasized that Russian citizens entering Georgia is a challenge.
