Salome Zurabishvili, the fifth President of Georgia, has stated that the arrest and mistreatment of demonstrators persist alongside the ongoing protests in Georgia.
In a recent tweet, she highlighted the continuation of protests on day 45 in major cities, noting a return to repressive measures such as arrests, torture, the use of "titushki" (violent counter-demonstrators), and the denial of medical assistance. She emphasized the mounting pressure from European allies, calling for the urgent necessity of new elections.
Zurabishvili further criticized the detention of individuals arrested during previous protests, asserting that recent court rulings have resulted in their prolonged detention without legal or factual justification. She accused the judiciary of merely executing the orders of the ruling party.
The fifth President also condemned the arrest of Batumelebi’s director, describing the situation as "terror in Georgia" and expressing concern over the ongoing arrests of journalists, including two detentions in a single night.
