The Deputy Minister of Finance of Georgia, Giorgi Kakauridze, predicts that the restoration of tourism in 2022 will exceed 80%.
"Tourism sector has suffered the most during the pandemic. Tourist visits to Georgia have decreased significantly since March 2020. Consequently, the funds generated from tourism were also minimal for the country's economy. Last year, the total number of visitors was 1.9 million, while the amount generated in the country's economy increased significantly, totaling $ 1.2 billion. Compared to 2019, the recovery process was low in the first half of 2021. However, in the end, based on an annual basis, about 38% recovery was reported in the economy from tourism revenues. In the first 4 months of this year, the tourism recovery rate reached about 68% and there is good dynamics. We expect there will be at least a 70% and possibly more than a 80% annual recovery. It will have a positive effect on our economic growth," - Giorgi Kakauridze said at a meeting of the Sector Economy and Economic Policy Committee.
