The terms of transportation of properly declared goods to be exported from Georgia by sea from the customs warehouse to the harbor have been increased to 24 hours from 12 hours. According to the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, the volume of cargo to be transported will be accounted in a simplified manner and will not require sealing in the process of transportation from the customs warehouse to the port.
"We welcome the changes made in the customs legislation in order to promote international shipments, because the mentioned changes significantly simplify the cargo transportation procedures. Consequently, the volume of cargo to be transported will be accounted in a simplified manner and will not require sealing in the process of transportation from the customs warehouse to the port. This means that, for example, if it took about 3 minutes to prepare one car for loading into the ship, now this time will be significantly reduced, which in turn will decrease the delay time of the ship, increase the efficiency of operations and facilitate the flow of cargo from Georgia, the Caucasus and Central Asian countries," - APM Terminals notes.
The Revenue Service explains that the legislative changes will significantly reduce the time required for the movement of ships, as well as the time required for cargo and logistics operations related to the international transportation of cargo. At the same time, the potential of the country as a transit corridor will expand and it will be possible to deal with the challenges caused by the increased cargo turnover.
