Former American diplomat and representative of the Atlantic Council, Daniel Fried, states that everyone in the United States and Europe understands that Georgia is in a vulnerable state and no one wants it to be in danger.
"As for the so-called Western conspiracy to drag Georgia into the war, everyone in the United States and Europe understands that Georgia is in a vulnerable state and no one wants Georgia to be in danger. We fully understand that Georgia does not want to become the main supplier of weapons to Ukraine. Everyone understands this. So, the idea that the West wants to drag Georgia into the war is complete and dishonest nonsense. It's just wrong," said Daniel Fried at the international conference ongoing in Tbilisi.
According to him, the strengthening of Georgian democracy and Georgian institutions will strengthen its security.
Additionally, the former diplomat spoke about the 2008 war and said that it was stupid to say that Georgia provoked the war.
"I think, in light of Russia's attack on Ukraine, we can finally deny the nonsense that Georgia provoked the war. Putin was going to attack Georgia in any case. Yes, I had a conversation with the Georgian authorities, I urged them not to send troops, but if they had not done it, Russia would still attack. The war in Ukraine shows that Putin wants to reconquer the empire and is using force to do so," said Daniel Fried.
