"Georgia is the only country in the region that has free trade relations with the European Union and China. It should be emphasized that the free trade agreement between Georgia and China not only strengthens the trade and economic ties between the two countries, but also has wider regional benefits," - Levan Davitashvili said during his speech at the Promotion of High-Level Trade Ties session in Beijing.
According to the Georgian Economy Minister, the Government of Georgia pays special attention to strengthening the country's transit function and establishing a trade-logistics hub in the region.
„In order to develop the transit function of the region and use its advantages to the maximum extent, Georgia actively participates in various transport corridors in cooperation with partner countries. Given the growing need to diversify supply chains, the Middle Corridor is gaining more and more appeal as a viable alternative. This corridor can offer such tangible advantages as a shorter time compared to the sea transportation route and wider access to different regions and markets," - Levan Davitashvili said.
The Economy Minister also emphasized the visit of the Prime Minister of Georgia to the People's Republic of China in July 2023, which “became the starting point of a new era of partnership between the two countries.” As a result of the visit, the joint statement of the People's Republic of China and Georgia on the establishment of a strategic partnership was adopted, which forms the cooperation between the countries for the coming years.
