"Providing the population and the business sector with safe, clean and affordable energy, taking the growing consumption into account, is one of the main prerequisites for the country's development. That is why the goal of the energy policy of the Government of Georgia is to ensure energy security," - the First Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Romeo Mikautadze, said, who is participating in the World Utilities Congress planned under the patronage of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure of the United Arab Emirates and Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The First Deputy Minister made a report on the Global Ministerial Dialogues panel, which discussed future directions for the global energy and utility industries.
According to Romeo Mikautadze, in parallel with the development of traditional renewable energy sources, active work is underway in the direction of introducing new technologies, including the development of green hydrogen production. Also, the First Deputy Minister spoke about the utilization of energy storage batteries and other systems that help store excess energy generated by renewable sources during periods of low demand, allowing the accumulated energy to be used when demand is higher.
Romeo Mikautadze named energy efficiency as another priority direction, which helps to reduce energy consumption, including the utilization of fossil fuels. He said implementing energy efficiency measures such as improving building insulation, upgrading lighting systems and using energy-efficient appliances can help reduce overall energy demand.
The First Deputy Minister focused on encouraging the private sector to invest more in clean energy production. Romeo Mikautadze spoke about the support scheme for the production and utilization of energy from renewable sources, which will ultimately create opportunities to invest more than $2 billion in the energy sector of Georgia.
The global project, which will connect the energy systems of Georgia and the South Caucasus with the European Union through the Black Sea submarine cable, aroused special interest of the panel participants. "We will have the results by the end of the year and we assume that the project will be successful and even more countries will be involved in its implementation," said Romeo Mikautadze.
