“The current situation in Georgia is the result of the unfair policy of the European Union, the USA and many Western countries, which punish Georgia for not joining sanctions against Russia,” - MEP Branislav Ondruš said at the plenary session of the European Parliament.
According to him, the European Commission and the European Parliament should start a rational dialogue with the Georgian government.
"The position of the European Union on Georgia ignores the reality. Georgia has been an occupied country for about 20 years, and the EU has never once responded to this Russian occupation with sanctions. On the contrary, it developed political and economic cooperation with Russia.
Georgia is not a member of NATO and does not offer any security guarantee to the European Union against possible future military aggression. The European Union is not in a position to compensate for the negative impact of anti-Russian sanctions on the Georgian economy. Accordingly, they punish the Georgian government for balance and not for alliance relations with Russia, which is why Georgians do not face a social catastrophe. I think the European Commission and the European Parliament should start a rational dialogue with the Georgian government," Branislav Ondruš said.
