The Business Association of Georgia has published the results of the fourth quarter of 2022 of the BAG index, according to which, Georgia’s business climate index improved by 1.2 points and reached 44.4 points. The aforementioned growing dynamics, along with optimistic expectations, is conditioned by a positive assessment of the current state of business.
Within the scope of the research, the companies surveyed are grouped into four sectors: trade, services, industry and construction.
It should be noted that the current state of business was most positively assessed by the construction sector. This may be due to increased sales and sales prices in the fourth quarter, as noted by 39% and 54.5% of the surveyed companies in the sector.
It is significant that, despite the positive assessments recorded in the previous quarter and the sharply improved situation, the rating of the current state of business in the industry sector slightly worsened in the current quarter. It can be said that the industry sector is the only one of the listed sectors, which has difficulty in maintaining a stable indicator since the IV quarter of 2021 and fluctuates quite a bit depending on the quarters.
As for the business expectations for the next six months, the estimates for the fourth quarter of 2022 are positive in all sectors, although the most optimistic expectations are recorded in the construction sector. It should be emphasized that this indicator has improved by 45.4 points compared to the previous quarter.
To be informed, the BAG index is based on the assessments of the members of the Business Association of Georgia and the companies included in their group. Accordingly, the BAG index is an important indicator of the assessment of the business environment in Georgia, which is produced by the Business Association of Georgia and the PMC Research Center based on the methodology of the German Institute for Economic Research ifo.
