„Statistical indicators in tourism speak louder than perceptions and leave no room for interpretation, relevant statistics tell us that the recovery of tourism is progressing well - in the first half of 2023, up to 2.9 million international travelers arrived in Georgia. The dynamics of restoration of the tourism industry in Georgia has already exceeded 90% in tourist visits. As for the revenues received from tourism, in the first quarter of 2023 it amounted to approximately 800 million US dollars, which is 37% more than the similar data of 2019,” - said the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Mariam Kvrivishvili, who evaluated the statistical indicators of the first half of the tourism sector of Georgia.
According to the Deputy Minister, the growing dynamics of tourism is facilitated by the consistent recovery of the aviation industry in Georgia - in the first half of 2023, the passenger flow of Georgian airports equaled the pre-pandemic level by 100%, the indicators of the same period of 2019, Georgian airports served up to 2 million 500 thousand passengers.
"More direct flights from our strategic markets – Europe, the Gulf countries and Israel, mean that we have more tourists with spending power, due to which a special increase in the industry's income has been observed," – the Deputy Minister said.
