Specialists of the Department of Hydrometeorology of the National Environmental Agency of Georgia, within the framework of the UNDP-supported project titled Reducing the risk of climate-driven disasters in Georgia, paid an official visit to Daos, the Swiss Confederation.
As part of the visit, the meetings were held with the head of the Swiss Meteorological Service, as well as the representatives of the Natural Hazards Secretariat and the Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research.
The Agency's specialists learned in detail the practices in Switzerland in the field of snow avalanche risk management, which means snow observations, hazard mapping, arrangment of engineering preventive measures, forecasting and early warning. During field trips, the specialists inspected the avalanche protection structures and artificial avalanche management systems.
The specialists of the National Environmental Agency of Georgia had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with modern meteorological observation and weather forecasting and early warning systems.
