My First Festival, a Spanish cinema event for children, has awarded Franzy's Soup, an animation by Georgian director Ana Chubinidze, the prize for the best short film for those aged over four.
The 2021-produced work collected one of the two awards in the short films category of the event, with the other prize, for children aged above seven, going to The Queen of the Foxes by Marina Rosset.
Juries of the festival noted the film's careful technique and script, in addition to the originality of the approach, character design and humour. Their summary also said the work had generated a rich debate because it admits different readings, both by adults and by children.
Júlia Bertran, Toni de la Torre, Nuria García, Erica Fuster and Anabella Azpurúa comprised the judge panel for the section that agreed on the winning films in the section, with their decision resulting in a 15th international prize earned by Ana Chubinidze.
The film has been produced with screenplay, graphics and storyboard by Ana Chubinidze and animation by Chaïtane Conversat, Loreleï Palies, Sophie Roze and Iula Voitova. It also involves a musical score by Erekle Gestadze and Zviad Mgebry, while sound comes via Beso Kacharava, George Murgulia, Biko Gogaladze, Giorgi Lekishvili and Alexander Sanikidze.
It also comes following prizes awarded to the filmmaker by international festivals for The Pocket Man, her previous work, which was recognised at Montreal and Sharjah cinema events and received acclaim at the Countryside Animafest Cyprus, where it earned the Best Children's Film prize.
