“In 2022, the share of the population under absolute poverty line in Georgia decreased by 1.9 percentage points compared to the corresponding period of the previous year and amounted to 15.6%,” - shows the data published by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).
Reportedly, in 2022 the absolute poverty rate in urban settlements decreased by 2.7 percentage points and amounted to 12.3%, and in rural settlements it decreased by 0.7 percentage points and equaled 20.6%.
"In 2022, the absolute poverty rate has decreased in all age groups of the population compared to the previous year. In particular, the indicator in the age group under 18 was 20.4% (-2.3 percentage points), in the age group 18-64 - 15.3% (-2.0 percentage points), while in the age group 65 and older - 10.5% (-1.4 percentage points).
The absolute poverty rate for women decreased by 1.8 percentage points to 15.3%, while the rate for men decreased by 2.1 percentage points to 15.8%.
In 2022, compared to the previous year, the value of the Gini coefficient according to the total incomes decreased from 0.37 to 0.36, while according to the total consumer expenses, it is unchanged and amounts to 0.34," - the National Statistics Office of Georgia notes.
