A sculpture of the hippo Begi – a memorable character during the events of the 13 June natural disaster, was unveiled in the children's city "Mziuri". The event was attended by the Mayor of the capital city, Kakha Kaladze.
"We have decided to place this statue in the Mziuri Park. I wish there was always a lot of joy, happiness and success around this statue and have the strength to the people living in this city and every citizen of our country,"- said Kakha Kaladze.
To be informed, the statue designed by sculptor Erekle Tsuladze became the winner of the competition announced by the Tbilisi City Hall, which was dedicated to the June 13, 2015 events. The sculpture is made of stainless steel of the highest quality, using modern technologies. It is noteworthy that this type of work was placed outdoors or in the interior for the first time in Georgia.
The sculpture sketch competition was announced in 2019. Both Georgian and foreign authors or a group of authors with the status of a natural or legal person could participate in it.
The winner of the competition was selected by a 12-member competition commission set up by the Tbilisi City Hall, which included the representatives of the arts.
