Mikheil Saakashvili, the third President of Georgia, has responded to the open letter from Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze to U.S. President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, claiming that the letter is not directed towards the U.S. but rather to Moscow.
In a Facebook post, Saakashvili criticized the Georgian Dream government for pursuing an anti-American agenda since 2012, arguing that the letter was a covert attempt to pave the way for the restoration of diplomatic ties with Russia and potentially the annexation of Georgia. He expressed surprise at what he called "naive comments" that suggested Ivanishvili was "begging Trump for something." According to Saakashvili, Bidzina Ivanishvili, the leader of Georgian Dream, is fully aware of the conditions set by the Trump administration to normalize relations, which include the release of all political prisoners.
Saakashvili further stated, "This letter is written to Moscow, not to Trump," claiming that it signals a broader effort to reset relations with Russia and prepare for the annexation of Georgia.
