The Russian currency crisis has made the product unprecedentedly expensive in the occupied regions of Georgia. A change of prices particularly affected vegetables. As they say in the occupied Abkhazia, everything becomes more expensive, except for hazelnuts, the price of which has halved within one week.
The locals say that the prices have been maintained so far only for oil, sugar and flour, although this trend is also likely to change. According to them, there is no problem in exporting hazelnuts from Zugdidi, but the Russian and the Abkhazian border guards have imposed high taxes, which makes no sense in exporting goods from the region.
