The iconic Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was illuminated in the colors of the Georgian national flag to honor Georgia’s Independence Day.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, the celebration—organized by Georgian embassies—will take place in over 50 cities worldwide.

“Embassies of Georgia have begun marking Independence Day across the globe with a variety of events,” the Ministry stated.
