A Resorts Development Agency will be established in Georgia. The Agency will start functioning in July this year.
The Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia declared that the main tasks of the Agency will be to develop and promote balneological resorts, as well as mountain and other ones; research and study new potential resorts and prepare the relevant general plans; cooperate with various agencies and promote the development for the arrangement of the relevant infrastructure of the mentioned places;
"One of the strategic goals of the country's economic development is to grow the number of international visitors, which is followed by an increase in revenue. In turn, the development of resorts is important for the development of the sector, which actively attracts tourists to the country.
It is also important that the development of resort zones in Georgia, due to their geographical location, decentralizes not only almost all regional centers of Georgia, but also towns and settlements, where otherwise, additional budget funds are necessary to be mobilized from the central budget.
The analysis of the existing resort potential shows that the works are to be carried out particularly in the balneological direction. It should be noted that mountain and balneological resorts are one of the main pillars of sports and recreational tourism and Georgia has a great potential in this regard.
Despite the biggest challenge related to the pandemic in the last 3 years, the tourism sector remains one of the priority areas that the most developed countries are trying to recover quickly, as this sector accumulates private revenues, having a completely different concept in terms of economic diversification. Taking into account all the above-mentioned and ensuring the effective implementation of these goals, the Government of Georgia considers it expedient to establish a new legal entity – Resorts Development Agency - within the system of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development," - the Ministry said.
