“The start of flights to Georgia by the second Russian airline Red Wings has been postponed indefinitely. The reason for this is that the airline has not yet received the appropriate permission from the Ministry of Transport of Russia,” – Izvestia newspaper reports based on the airline's source.
At the same time, in May, Red Wings received approval from the Georgian side to start flights between Russia and Georgia. The airline planned to operate flights on Domodedovo-Kutaisi, Zhukovsky-Tbilisi and Sochi-Tbilisi routes and charter flights.
"We are waiting for the decision of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation. We have agreed with the Georgian side on all charters," - the source of Izvestia newspaper says.
Red Wings press office confirms that the airline is waiting for permission from the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation to start flights to Georgia.
Reportedly, appointment of new flights to Georgia will reduce the cost of air tickets. However, Alexander Mkrtchyan, vice-president of the Alliance of Russian Travel Agencies (ATA), believes that at least 50 weekly flights between the countries are needed to reduce prices, and now there are only 14.
To be reminded, Red Wings was planning to start flying to Georgia at the beginning of June. Then the flight schedule was postponed for June 12 and 16.
