The demand for kiwi has increased in Georgia. This is evidenced by the volume of this year's imports into the country, which exceeds local production by 50%. More specifically, the import of fruits amounted to 2.5 thousand tons, which is 55% more than the product produced in Georgia.
Georgia's top trading partner by kiwi import is Iran (95%). After May, the demand for the fruit decreases, which means that the kiwi season has come to an end.
10% of local production is exported, namely to Japan. As East-Fruit writes, a total of 160 tons of Georgian kiwi were exported, which is a record figure.
As for the reasons, in 2022-2023, the increase in demand for the product was primarily caused by the influx of Russian citizens to Georgia. Another factor is the post-pandemic period.
