“The reconstruction of the breakwaters in the Poti Port has started as part of the port expansion project,” - Iain Rawlinson, commercial director of the port operator company, APM Terminals Poti, told Trend agency.
According to him, the Poti Port was founded in 1858, therefore its infrastructure is a significant part of the company's costs to maintain the existing facility.
"This project will ensure that the breakwaters are still strong and large enough to protect the port from bad weather, especially in winter," - Rawlinson said.
The commercial director focuses on another big investment, which is also related to the first project. This is the construction of new breakwaters and two new deep-water berths. The depth of each berth will be 15 meters.
"These berths will be able to accommodate the largest ships moving across the Black Sea today," Rawlinson said.
According to him, the mentioned project is awaiting the approval of the government.
APM Terminals is a port operating the company headquartered in the Netherlands. The company is the transport and logistics division of the Danish shipping giant, Maersk.
