The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) will hold urgent debates on Georgia's situation during its spring session in Strasbourg from April 7-11, 2025. The debates will address Resolution 2585 (2025), which challenges the unratified credentials of Georgia’s parliamentary delegation.
PACE previously adopted a resolution on January 29 calling for new elections in Georgia. The Assembly ratified the Georgian delegation’s mandates until April 2025 with conditions, including:
-
Inclusive electoral reforms for new, democratic elections.
-
Steps to resume Georgia’s European integration process.
-
End to police brutality, human rights abuses, and misuse of legal proceedings.
-
Addressing concerns about the Law on Transparency of Foreign Influence and the Code of Administrative Offences.
-
Release of political prisoners before the April 2025 session.
Progress on these issues will be reviewed, and the mandates of Georgia’s delegation could be re-evaluated, with the possibility of suspension, depending on developments.
