PACE monitoring rapporteurs for Georgia, Claude Kern and Edite Estrela, expressed deep concern over the arrests and pretrial detentions of opposition and protest leaders, as well as police raids on their offices, reportedly based on questionable legal grounds. They highlighted the potential for politically motivated prosecutions, which undermine democratic principles. 

The rapporteurs also condemned police violence against journalists and peaceful demonstrators, stressing the impunity for such actions, which is unacceptable. They called for thorough investigations into these incidents and for accountability. A fact-finding visit to Tbilisi is planned for early January.
