In a heartfelt farewell video address, Robin Dunnigan, the outgoing U.S. Ambassador to Georgia, expressed deep gratitude to the Georgian people and reaffirmed the enduring bond between the United States and Georgia.
“The special bond between the American and Georgian people cannot be broken. Georgia’s place is in the Western family of democracies. By working together, we can create a better future for our children,” Dunnigan stated.
Reflecting on her time in Georgia, Dunnigan praised the warmth and generosity of the Georgian people, saying she had never encountered such hospitality in her 33-year diplomatic career.
“Thank you for opening your hearts and homes to me and my family… for sharing your heartfelt toasts, your delicious supras, your magnificent polyphonic singing, and your unique culture,” she said.
She recounted her travels throughout the country—from Svaneti and Ushguli to Kakheti and Tusheti, as well as every corner of Tbilisi—noting the overwhelming kindness she received everywhere.
Dunnigan concluded by saying she is leaving a piece of her heart in Georgia and will remain a lifelong friend of the Georgian people.
“Didi madloba and shekhvedramde!” she said, ending with a warm farewell in Georgian.
On June 5, Ambassador Dunnigan announced her retirement, clarifying it was a personal decision and not related to any request from the U.S. administration.
