At its plenary session on Thursday, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly adopted the Porto Declaration, reaffirming support for the territorial integrity of Georgia and Ukraine.
The Assembly urged Syria to withdraw its recognition of the “independence” of Georgia’s Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) regions, as well as Ukraine’s Donetsk and Luhansk, and to respect internationally recognized borders.
The declaration also rejected the legitimacy of elections held under Russian control in Georgia’s occupied regions, including the March 2, 2025 presidential election in Abkhazia, calling it a direct violation of Georgia’s sovereignty.
Additionally, the OSCE PA called on Russia to:
-
Reverse its recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia as independent states
-
Honor the 2008 EU-brokered ceasefire agreement
-
Halt militarization and stop efforts to forcibly detach these regions from Georgia
