By 2021, the number of transit trailers moving across the Georgian border has increased (by 7% compared to 2020) at a record rate - 332,000.
Each country in the region uses Georgian roads to import and export products, be it the North-South Corridor or the East-West route. More than 900 heavy trucks cross the country’s border every day, transporting up to 17,000 tons of products per day.
A special fee is placed on the transit of cargo through Georgia. Since 2010, each vehicle has been paying a GEL 200 highway use fee per intersection of the country border, from which 66.4 million GEL was transferred to the budget in 2021 – this amount is 3.4 million GEL more than in 2020.
According to the destination countries, most of the trailers cross the border of Armenia, followed by Azerbaijan, Turkey and Russia.
