Guria Fish Farming's Norwegian salmon will appear in the Georgian market by summer 2023. Currently, a farm is being built in the village of Tskaltsminda, Lanchkhuti district, and after the completion of the first stage at the end of the year, the company will be able to produce 700 tons of salmon.
As Vano Doborjginidze, the Director of the company, said, they will also export the salmon in the future. According to him, the company’s goal is to enter the eastern market, namely Japan.
"We will start harvesting the first salmon by the summer of next year; when the volume of salmon reaches 3-5 kilograms, we will be able to sell them. It is impossible to determine the exact volume in advance, although we will not enter the local market with a large volume at the first stage.
We already have the first fry, which we will export in late September. This will be implemented within a two-year period. We want to enter the Eastern market, namely Japan. As for the construction of the farm, the first phase should be completed by the end of this year, and we will plan the next development after that. Completion of the first stage will give us the opportunity to produce 700 tons of salmon," - he said.
To be informed, the total cost of the Guria Fish Farming project will be GEL 200 million. The company has a total of 10 hectares of the territory at its disposal, and at the initial stage, the farm will occupy only 1 hectare. GEL 8.5 million has already been invested for the first stage. It should be noted that this is the first Norwegian salmon farm in Georgia.
