The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly criticized Georgia’s October 4 elections, calling the developments “a sad day for democracy in Georgia.”
In a statement published on social network X (formerly Twitter), the Ministry expressed deep concern over the lack of international observation and the broader political climate surrounding the vote.
“OSCE/ODIHR unable to observe local elections, recommendations unaddressed. Regrettable use of violence. Repressive laws and jailing opposition leaders further undermine trust in Georgia’s elections,” the statement read.
Norway’s response adds to growing international criticism over the conduct of the elections, highlighting concerns about democratic backsliding, suppression of opposition voices, and the erosion of electoral transparency in the country.
