A 5-km section of the new Kvesheti-Kobi road, connecting to Gudauri, will open in 2025, according to the Roads Department of Georgia.

The Kvesheti-Kobi highway is a 23-km project. Lot 1, a 9-km tunnel section, costing 909 million GEL, was completed in 2024. Construction is 79% finished and is being carried out by China Railway Tunnel Group Co.

Lot 2, spanning 12.7 km and costing 316.7 million GEL, includes 5 bridges, 4 tunnels, and the rehabilitation of 1 bridge. The section is 50% complete and is being built by China Railway 23rd Bureau Group.

While the access road to Gudauri will open in 2025, the full 23-km highway opening date is not yet specified.
