Georgian Railways is launching a block train service directly connecting its ports with Baku. The route will include Batumi, Poti, Tbilisi, Absheron, Sumgayit, and Aliatsi.
The train will run on a fixed timetable, linking Georgia’s Black Sea ports with major Azerbaijani terminals.
Georgian and Azerbaijani railways signed the agreement in Almaty.
The offer provides cargo owners a “terminal‑to‑door” service: containers sent from Poti can reach Baku quickly, with known schedules—and empty containers will return on schedule.
Moving the transport of empty containers from road to rail is expected to reduce road wear and environmental impact.
The service will save time and cut costs, since delays and terminal storage fees incur extra charges.
Georgian Railways is pushing this as a simplified, predictable logistics solution designed to increase cargo throughput and revenue.
