Governor of the National Bank of Georgia (NBG), Natia Turnava, met with SWIFT’s Regional Director and other representatives during the SIBOS International Conference, organized by SWIFT, to discuss deepening cooperation in financial infrastructure development.
Key topics included the rollout of SWIFT’s core products in Georgia, the adoption of ISO 20022 standards by commercial banks, enhancement of payment systems, and the importance of joint training initiatives.
Turnava highlighted Georgia’s rapid progress in adopting innovative financial technologies:
“We are modernizing our payment systems to improve the interoperability of Georgia’s financial infrastructure. This includes an advanced upgrade to the Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) system and the upcoming launch of a 24/7 Instant Payment System (IPS) enabling real-time fund transfers,” she said.
She also proposed that a future meeting of SWIFT’s national member groups be held in Tbilisi.
Notably, Turnava is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at SIBOS—marking the first time an NBG Governor has been invited as a keynote speaker at the global event.
