
“In order to encourage the electronic payments in Georgia, a working meeting with payment market participants was held at the National Bank of Georgia,” - the National Bank reports.
The meeting was held within the framework of the financial inclusion and accountability project. The Acting President of the National Bank of Georgia, Vice-President Archil Mestvirishvili delivered a welcome speech to the guests. He spoke about the importance of the electronic payments for the country's economy, the plans of the National Bank and thanked the representatives of the World Bank for analyzing the level of development of the electronic payments in Georgia in December 2022 and identifying the challenges.
The meeting was held in an interactive format. The World Bank specialists presented the results of their research, market assessments and expectations regarding the development of electronic payment means to the participants of the Georgian payment market (commercial banks, payment systems and payment service providers, international card systems). On the other hand, the market participants discussed the barriers in the market and the problems they face in relation to both customers and trade-service facilities. They also presented their opinions and suggestions to accelerate the further development of the electronic payments in Georgia.
The National Bank of Georgia, together with its partners, will continue to promote the development of the digital ecosystem in the country.
