Mother's Day is celebrated in Georgia on March 3. The holiday was introduced in 1991 by the Supreme Council at the initiative of Georgia's first president, Zviad Gamsakhurdia.
Originally intended to replace International Women's Day, March 8, both dates were ultimately designated as public holidays and continue to be celebrated in Georgia.
