According to the study of research and management consulting company ACT, despite the fact that the majority of the population does not express open dissatisfaction with the gathering of large numbers of Russian tourists in the resort areas of Georgia, most of them (57%) believe that the Georgian government should restrict Russian citizens from doing business in the territory of Georgia (including tourist zones).
Persons involved in the study cite several factors:
• Russia is the enemy of Georgia (40.6%);
• Businesses produced by Russian citizens compete with local businesses in Georgia and reduce their revenues (37.9%);
• Russia wages war against Ukraine (11.1%).
The creation of a business environment for Russian "tourists" in Georgia is a direct economic threat to local businesses, as this fact significantly increases competition in the country's market and therefore has a negative impact on the expected financial well-being in this way,” – the ACT study says.
To be informed, the company ACT conducted a population survey on tourism issues in June 11-16, 2022. More than 800 randomly selected Georgian citizens participated in the study.
