Within the framework of Georgia's Rural Agricultural Irrigation and Land Project (GRAIL) the reclamation infrastructure will be rehabilitated and modernized.
As a result, irrigation and drainage services and production of agricultural products will be improved in the project areas; the amount of irrigated agricultural land will additionally increase to 27,000 hectares; institutional capacity for irrigation and land management will be strengthened at the national level.
The goal of the project is to completely change and modernize the management of reclamation systems, taking modern standards into account, which in turn will reduce both operational and natural resource costs. The modern management system involves the introduction of a number of technological and software innovations. The preparatory works required for the implementation of the project are in the final stage. The World Bank officials are holding intensive meetings with relevant government agencies.
“Georgia's Rural Agricultural Irrigation and Land Project (GRAIL), the implementation of which will start in the near future and will last for 6 years, will be another important factor that will contribute to the development of sustainable agriculture in Georgia,” - said the General Director of Georgian Amellioration, Tengiz Nasaridze.
