Mikhail Chkhenkeli thanked the UNICEF officials for their outstanding support expressed in terms of the education system during the pandemic.
The Minister also highlighted the fruitful cooperation between the Foundation and the Ministry in promoting vaccination of teachers and school administrative staff. As Mikheil Chkhenkeli noted, the number of teachers vaccinated increased from 9% to 70% in two months as a result of joint efforts and consistent measures. According to the Minister, today the school is the safest place in terms of the spread of Covid-19, because in addition to the high rate of vaccination, teachers are systematically tested and there is an immediate response as soon as the infection is detected.
Philip Corey and Ghassan Khalil positively assessed the effective steps taken by the Ministry of Education and Science during the pandemic. The UNICEF Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia also addressed the issue of student nutrition, noting that it is an important component in providing an inclusive learning environment both socially and in terms of improving student academic performance.
The parties also touched upon the need to develop digital technologies and additional educational resources in schools. Mikheil Chkhenkeli noted that the process of introducing the "Minecraft Education Edition" is underway, which will improve the teaching methodology and enable young people to receive modern education. Minecraft helps students develop skills such as teamwork, communication, critical and systematic thinking, problem solving.
Ana Janelidze, the National Consultant for Preschool Education Development at UNICEF, also attended the meeting held at the Ministry.
