European Parliament rapporteur on Georgia, MEP Rasa Juknevičienė, has condemned what she describes as an escalating crackdown on peaceful protesters by the ruling Georgian Dream party.
Posting on her X (formerly Twitter) page, Juknevičienė criticized a recent decision by Tbilisi City Court to freeze the bank accounts of seven civil society organizations (CSOs), calling the move part of a “bogus ‘sabotage’ probe” linked to the groups’ support for protesters.
“These CSOs were targeted simply for providing basic protective gear to demonstrators,” she wrote.
She emphasized that the European Parliament has already outlined how the EU should respond to the deteriorating situation in Georgia and urged immediate attention from the international community.
“We cannot let Georgia slip into oblivion,” Juknevičienė warned.
