“A meeting with the Armenian delegation was held at the representative body of the capital within the framework of the UNESCO project "Tbilisi - World Book Capital", - the Tbilisi City Council reports.
The Chairman of the Tbilisi City Council, Giorgi Tkemaladze, the Deputy Chairman, Zurab Abashidze, the Chairman of the Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia Faction, Otar Grigolia, the Chairman of the Education and Culture Commission, Kakha Labuchidze and the Chairman of the Commission for Investment Policy and International Relations, Levan Arveladze hosted the members of the Yerevan City Council.
Giorgi Tkemaladze opened the meeting, addressed the guests with a welcoming speech and thanked them for visiting Georgia.
The Chairman of the City Council informed the Deputy Mayor of Yerevan and the members of the City Council about the important priorities being implemented by the municipality and expressed his readiness to share experiences and hope for cooperation.
"In recent years, we have introduced many innovations to our city and made important decisions in three main areas. These are urban policy, general plan and transport policy, the components of which are traffic jams, ecology and public transport issues. We can say that the public transport has been completely renovated, hourly parking is in place, the initial stages of taxi reform have been completed, all city parks have been restored, and many new recreational spaces have been created. Significant and fundamental steps have been taken in terms of unfinished construction, replacement of damaged houses, rehabilitation of historical cultural monuments and areas, business relations, as well as social and health programs. Facing these challenges, we came to the power of the Tbilisi government and, for the second term, the voters supported the improvement of these issues. We think the next four years will be really turning in these directions," - said Giorgi Tkemaladze.
For their part, the members of the Armenian delegation congratulated the representatives of the City Council on the designation of Tbilisi as the World Book Capital, talked about the activities of the Yerevan Municipality and expressed their desire to share experiences between the two cities and readiness for cooperation.
"We had a very fruitful and informative meeting at the Tbilisi City Council. We made future plans, which will be based on the principles of deepening relations between the two cities, sharing experience and cooperation," - said the First Deputy Mayor of Yerevan, Levon Hovhannisyan.
