Another meeting of the UNESCO World Book Capital Network was opened in Tbilisi by the Deputy Mayor of Tbilisi, Andria Basilaia.
The participants of the network meeting were also welcomed by the head of the UNESCO World Book Capital project, Ian Denison, and the director of the Union of the Tbilisi Municipality Multifunctional Libraries and the project Tbilisi - World Book Capital, Ninia Macharashvili.
"The mentioned meeting will allow us to plan important international initiatives during 2024-25, which will contribute to raising the level of literacy in society and help vulnerable groups have equal opportunities to receive information and education. The visit of the representatives of twenty member cities of the network will additionally open a new door for the promotion of the country and Georgian literature", - Ninia Macharashvili said.
The planned programs were presented by guests from Strasbourg and Rio de Janeiro. The latter will host the project in 2025.
Tbilisi is hosting the meeting of the UNESCO World Book Capital Network for the second time. The first meeting was held in April 2022, when Tbilisi completed the World Book Capital project. The project supported by the Tbilisi City Hall has been hosted by our capital since April 23, 2021. A number of publishing, general science, multimedia and international projects were implemented.
Since the establishment of the World Book Capital project by the UNESCO, 25 cities of different continents and countries have held this status.
