The Georgian Orthodox Church celebrates the Day of Restoration of Autocephaly on March 25. In connection with this date, festive services will be held in all churches today.
The Georgian Orthodox Church restored autocephaly on March 25, 1917, and its independence was recognized by all Orthodox Churches, however, this has not been confirmed in writing. With the direct intentions of Ilia II, the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople officially recognized the autocephaly of Georgia in 1990.
