Georgia’s double Olympic champion, Lasha Bekauri (90kg), claimed gold at the European Open in La Nucia, Spain, with a stunning victory in the final. Bekauri defeated Spanish judoka Daniel Nieto-Trinidad in just eight seconds, marking his first tournament win since the Olympic Games.

While the event did not feature many of the sport’s top-ranked competitors, Bekauri stood out as Georgia’s sole representative. He used the competition as a stepping stone in his preparations for the upcoming World Judo Championships, set to take place from June 13 to 20.
