“With the support of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth of Georgia and in cooperation with the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, on May 4, a large-scale exhibition of Niko Pirosmanashvili's works will be opened at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark,” – the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth of Georgia stated.
"Visitors will see 48 works of Pirosmani until August 20, of which 47 paintings belong to the Shalva Amiranashvili State Art Museum of Georgia and the Contemporary Georgian Art Foundation, and one painting is selected from the Niko Pirosmani State Museum in Mirzaani. After Denmark, from September 17, 2023 to January 28, 2024, the exhibition will be hosted by Switzerland, in particular, by the Fondation Beyeler.
It should be noted that this is the first and historic occasion when Pirosmani's work will be presented on such a large scale in one of the prestigious European museums. In order to properly acquaint the foreign visitor with Niko Pirosmani's work, a complex preparatory process of several months was held with the participation of foreign and Georgian specialists.
The works selected for the exhibition were packed for transportation in accordance with international museum standards, were sent safely to Copenhagen and were housed in the Louisiana Museum. The exhibits were brought safely from Georgia to Denmark by the transport company Kunsttrans. Irakli Purtsvanidze, a representative of the the Fondation Beyeler, Kakhaber Chumbadze, Deputy Head of the General Inspection Department of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth of Georgia, Nana Managadze, chief restorer of the State Museum of Art of Georgia, and curator of Georgian painting and graphics funds of the Shalva Amiranashvili State Art Museum of Georgia and the Contemporary Georgian Art Foundation, Khatuna Kikvadze participated in the transportation process.
A memorandum of cooperation was signed between the museums, which, in addition to the organizational issues of the Pirosmani exhibition, takes into account the needs of the Georgian side. An interactive multilingual website dedicated to Pirosmani and his works will be created on the initiative of the Foundation Beyeler and will be provided to Georgia free of charge.
The opening ceremony of the large-scale exhibition of Niko Pirosmanashvili in the Louisiana Museum will be held on May 4. The Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth of Georgia Tea Tsulukiani, Ambassador of Georgia to the Kingdom of Denmark Nata Menabde, First Deputy Director of the National Museum of Georgia Nika Akhalbedashvili, representatives of Infintart Foundation and other high-ranking guests will attend the event.
