Fresh off Paris Saint-Germain’s emphatic 5-0 victory over Inter in the UEFA Champions League final, Georgian star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia gave his first post-match interview to legendary Danish goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel, now an expert analyst for UEFA TV.
Schmeichel began by highlighting Kvaratskhelia’s remarkable journey:
“Khvicha, four months ago you were in a completely different place, and now you’re a Champions League winner. This wasn’t just 1-0 – you won 5-0! How do you feel at this moment?”
Kvaratskhelia:
“It’s hard to describe. This is an incredible feeling, I’m shocked. I still can’t believe I’m standing here. But I always believed this was possible. I’m a Champions League winner and I’m very happy. We achieved all of this together – with the club and the coaches.”
Schmeichel praised Kvaratskhelia’s performance throughout the season and asked about the team’s future:
“You should definitely be proud. This was an unimaginable performance from you – not just today, but since you joined PSG. What do you think this team can achieve and how long can you continue this dominance?”
Kvaratskhelia:
“I think this team deserved the championship even before I joined, but football often presents difficult moments that you have to overcome. We managed to do that. Beating Inter 5-0 in the final is not easy.”
Schmeichel then pointed to the team’s cohesion under head coach Luis Enrique:
“It seems like today each of you was enjoying Luis Enrique’s style of football.”
Kvaratskhelia:
“The most important thing is that we’re like a family. We always try to help each other as much as possible. The coach works amazingly, explains everything perfectly to us, and we try to translate that onto the pitch.”
The interview marked a memorable moment in Kvaratskhelia’s career — not only as a Champions League winner but as a central figure in PSG’s historic victory.
