The Kazakh parliament ratified an intergovernmental agreement with Türkiye on international cargo transportation signed on May 10, 2022.
Ratification of the agreement will reduce the time of cargo passage to 5 days. In 2022, the passage of this route took 13-15 days.
The agreement aims to increase cargo traffic along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TCIR), which uses the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, Caspian Sea ports and the Western Europe-Western China international transit corridor. This will also increase trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Türkiye.
As a reminder, the Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor (the "Middle Corridor") runs from the China-Kazakhstan border through Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan and Georgia to Europe.
