Japan is exploring the possibilities of the Middle Corridor. A Japanese delegation, consisting of public and private sector representatives, visited Azerbaijan to study the possibilities of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR/Middle Corridor).
The delegation held a meeting with the Deputy Minister of the Digital Development and Transport of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Rahman Hummatov. As the Ministry explains, the Deputy Minister briefed the Japanese delegation on the possibilities of the Middle Corridor and focused on the need to harmonize the tariff policy, simplify the border crossing procedures and digitalize this route.
According to Rahman Hummatov, Azerbaijan, together with Turkey and Georgia, is trying to consistently increase the capacity of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) Railway, "which is of vital importance in the Middle Corridor".
It was noted at the meeting that digitalization of the middle corridor is one of the most important tools to ensure transparency of transit traffic and equal conditions for carriers.
