At the Antalya Diplomacy Forum in Türkiye, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated that during wartime, diplomacy holds little power. Responding to a panel question on diplomacy’s role in today’s world, he said:
“In February 2022, we received a request to join the Russia-Ukraine war—twice. There was strong political pressure against Georgia. In such a climate, diplomacy was ineffective. We had to rely solely on political resistance to protect our national interests.”
Kobakhidze emphasized the importance of distinguishing between peace and war when discussing diplomacy’s effectiveness. “Currently, political interests dominate. Diplomacy can only prevail once peace is restored,” he added.
