
The volume of wine export from Georgia increased by 15.9% in 7 months.
In January-July 2024, Georgia sold abroad 60,388 tons of wine worth 174.7 million US dollars, and in the same period of 2023 - 51,924 tons of wine worth 150.4 million US dollars.
In the traditionally main export market, Russia, since May 1, the excise duty imposed on some types of imported alcoholic beverages, including wine, has increased 3 times. As a result, in 3 months after the implementation of the regulation, exports decreased by 53.2% in amount, and by 56.3% - in quantity. More specifically, in May, June and July of last year, Georgia sold 17,456 tons of wine worth 46.8 million US dollars to the North, and in the same period of 2024 - 7,610 tons of wine worth 21.8 million US dollars.
According to the official data, in July, wine exports to Russia amounted to 3,829 tons with 10.3 million US dollars, which is 41.2% less than the figure of the same month last year. And in the amount, the decrease was 40.6%. However, in the span of 7 months, at the expense of the existing trend before the tax increase, wine exports to Russia exceeded the last year's figure.
According to the January-July 2024 statistics, Georgia's TOP-10 export markets for natural grape wines are as follows:
Russia - $121.4 million for 44,655 tons;
Poland - $9.05 million for 3,683 tons;
Ukraine - $6.8 million for 2,442 tons;
Kazakhstan - $6.4 million for 1,940 tons;
China - $4.8 million for 1,380 tons;
Belarus - $4.2 million for 1,525 tons;
The USA - $4.2 million for 710 tons;
Germany - $3.5 million for 799 tons;
Latvia - $2.3 million for 606 tons;
Lithuania - $1.3 million for 375 tons.
